Information Technology (IT) can be used potentially in every sector of the economy. Information Technology has been a dynamic sector in many developed economies and India has stood out a

s a developing country where IT sector has grown indefinitely . Information Technology jobs in India are the first choice career for the bright brains who are innovative. Hence, IT jobs in India are also booming with increasing demand for information technology professionals.

Future of Information Technology :

IT will continue to gain momentum. The immense expansion in networking technologies is expected to continue into the next decade also. IT will bring about an improvement in the quality of life as it impacts on global competitiveness.

Technologies that are emerging are Data Warehousing and Data Mining. They involve collecting data in normal research. Software services that are being used will go a long way.

Future Estimates

  • Annual revenue estimated for the industry is US$87 billion
  • Software and Services will contribute over 7.5% of the overall GDP growth of India.
  • IT exports will constitute 35% of the total exports of India
  • There will be 2.2 million jobs in IT sector
  • IT industry will attract FDI of US$ 4-5 billion
  • Market capitalization of IT shares will be approximately US $225 billion.

Difference between CS/IT?

We are often asked, “What is the difference between Information Technology and Computer Science?”

Computer Science is the science of computers while Information

Technology may or may not use computers. CS helps you better understand how computers solve problems. Abstract ideas are at the heart of CS.Understanding how technology can best meet the Information management needs of an organization is the heart of IT. An adaptable Computer Scientist should not find it difficult to migrate to the field of IT by learning more about the technology. An IT professional on the other hand, will have to go through CS training in order to be a good computer scientist.CS is about understanding concepts, whereas IT is about knowing more facts.CS is the study of computer’s design and operation. But IT is the use of the computer for a specific purpose without knowing the details of how the computer is carrying on all these tasks. CS is a part of IT. CS is generally responsible of building the tools used in IT, where as IT technicians are responsible of using these tools to make real world applications.CS refers to the science of computers – which includes the design of software ,hardware ,networking etc. IT is the application of Computers towards organizing and efficient retrieval of information

Computer Science describes what is the science behind computer.how computer is engineered. include history, present and future of computer. including its application and many things. While IT is some thing different.it is study of technology, describe following things.

1. How to collect information from various sources.

2. How to store information in such a way that it can retrieve in a desired manner.

3. How to re-distribute information in such way that it fulfills the requirement.

GRE(Graduate Record Examination)

Education in modern times has become an asset that an individual must always seek to embellish. In order to pursue higher studies in American universities, interestig students undertake a common entrance test, the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). It is conducted to ascertain candidates’ eligibility for pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. programme in American universities, details of which are given below.

Students seeking admission to Graduate Schools, Professional Colleges and Fellowship Competitions are required to succeed in this test. The GRE score, the candidate’s undergraduate records and recommendations are used as the criteria for admission to graduate schools and sponsoring of fellowships.

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee comprising faculty from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board – GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Admission to post graduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarship/assistantship at engineering colleges/institutes in the country are open to those who qualify through GATE. GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy or Master degree in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications are eligible for Master/Doctoral programmes in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science. To avail the scholarship, the candidate must additionally secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. GATE qualification, however, is not required for candidates with Master degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy who may be seeking scholarship/assistantship for relevant doctoral programmes.

The overall coordination and responsibility of conducting GATE 2009 lies with Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, designated as the Organizing Institute for GATE 2009.
